If you've been thinking about senior pictures, you've probably asked yourself...
"Should we book a summer session or wait until fall?"
Honestly, there isn't a wrong answer.
Every season has something beautiful to offer, and that's one of my favorite things about photographing seniors here in Central North Dakota. But if you're dreaming about rich colors, cozy outfits, and those warm golden evenings, fall might just steal your heart.
Here's why.
If you're anything like me, you count down the days until the leaves start changing.
There's just something about those deep golds, burnt oranges, rich reds, and warm, earthy tones that make everything feel a little extra magical.
Whether we're walking through tree-lined trails, exploring a quiet country road, or photographing your session in an open field, fall gives us natural color that you simply can't recreate.
These colors photograph beautifully with just about every outfit!
North Dakota summers can get warm.
Fall sessions usually mean cooler evenings, fewer bugs, and much more comfortable temperatures for walking around different locations.
You're not worrying about sweating through your outfit before we even start.
Hair holds its style better, makeup lasts longer, and everyone tends to relax a little more when they're comfortable.
That relaxed feeling always shows in your photos.
This might be one of my favorite reasons.
Fall fashion is just fun.
Think cozy sweaters, flannels, boots, layered jackets, cute hats, long dresses paired with denim jackets, neutral colors, and textures.
All of those little details photograph beautifully and help create a gallery with so much personality.
One of the biggest compliments I hear from seniors after their session is how much they loved getting to wear outfits that actually felt like them.
Something parents don't always think about is that senior year flies by.
Between sports, concerts, homecoming, hunting season, college applications, holidays, and everything else packed into the school year, life gets busy fast.
Scheduling your senior pictures in early fall means one more thing is checked off your list before graduation season rolls around.
It also gives you plenty of time for:
Yearbook deadlines
Graduation announcements
Family gifts
Wall art
Graduation party decorations
So, no last-minute scrambling or struggling to get it on the calendar.
If you think you want fall colors, don't wait until the leaves start changing to reach out.
By then, my calendar is usually close to full.
Fall is consistently one of my busiest seasons because everyone loves those colorful trees and cozy outfits.
Booking early gives you the best chance at securing your ideal date and gives us plenty of time to plan locations, outfits, and all the little details that make your session truly feel like you.
Every season tells a different story.
Summer feels carefree, winter feels peaceful, spring feels fresh, but fall feels like celebrating everything you've accomplished while looking ahead to what's next.
Maybe that's why it fits senior year so perfectly.
If you're a Class of 2027 senior (or the parent of one!), and you've been dreaming about colorful leaves, golden sunsets, cozy outfits, and a relaxed evening that feels more like an adventure than a photoshoot, fall might be exactly what you're looking for.
I'd love to help you create a senior session that's completely you.
Because these photos are the ones you'll look back on years from now and remember exactly what this season of life felt like.
If you're looking for a Bismarck, ND senior photographer serving Mandan, Jamestown, Minot, Dickinson, Fargo, and all of Central North Dakota, now is the perfect time to reserve your Class of 2027 fall senior session.
